The Fallen Soldier Battle Cross, Battlefield Cross or Battle Cross is a symbolic replacement of a cross, or marker appropriate to an individual service-member’s religion, on the battlefield or at the base camp for a soldier who has been killed. The practice started during or prior to the American Civil War, as a means of identifying the bodies on the battleground before removal. Today, it is a means of showing respect for the dead amongst battleground before removal. Today, it is a means of showing respect for the dead amongst the still living members of the troop.
Art of Bronze spent tremendous time in the creating of this Vietnam era life-size battlefield cross bronze statue memorial. The sculpture includes a highly detailed M1 combat helmet often referred to as “the steel pot”. The helmet is welded atop an iconic M16A1 rifle with a 20 round magazine. Jungle boots are placed at 45 degree angles and serve to support the rifle and helmet. Clients have the option to move the boots angle to fit their needs. A special bronze plaque can be affixed to the bronze base.
