This spectacular bronze statue features an ibex standing atop a rocky outcropping base. Its distinctive curled horns turn back and go behind its upright ears. This is an original sculpture with a deeply textured coat and strong muscle features. This sculpture came from a Southern California collector who enjoyed wildlife artwork from throughout the world.
The ibex is a common sight in the mountains of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and northern Africa. Ritual ibex hunts were an important feature of these regions. Successfully capturing and killing these elusive creatures was believed to secure favors from the gods. The ibex in many cultures has been the symbol of energy, vitality, long life and fertility.
The sculpture is mounted on a green marble base. It is in excellent condition.
