Art of bronze is honored to be offering these extraordinary African head and head-dress bronze sculptures. These metalwork heads were originally created from the great age of Benin art, 1450-1650. This bronze bust was probably of a Queen Mother and was used to preserve her memory and legacy. She is captured with conical, forward-pointing headdress of beaded net and high neck ring collar. These busts can go either indoors or outdoors.
Pricing below is for all three busts.
Individual pricing per bust- $7,500.00,
Each bust is 6″ W. X 7″ D. X 21 1/2″ H.
Brass to the Benin people was culturally and traditionally significant. It was sacred and held in in high esteem. Like all metals, Brass is associated with Ogun, the god of war, agriculture, hunting and creativity. The obas of Benin had once ruled an empire that extended from the Niger River westward hundreds of miles toward what is today Lagos. Ancient Benin had no system of writing other than the stories told in cast brass and carved ivory. Art was the kingdom’s culture, its wealth, its literature, its memory.
These rare castings were from a private Southern California collection. The owner of the collection had a love for African art, tribal art and West Africa. Each of these are truly unique and one-of-a-kind in their own way. We have never seen anything else like them in the world.
